Working Together

For ages

Attending childcare in the early years of a child’s life leads to positive results that can last a lifetime!

Childcare (also known as education and care) is a great opportunity for kids to make friends. They can also learn, prepare for school and build confidence.

Working Together offers free education and care for children in their year before Kindergarten, plus support for their families. Examples of extra support include:

  • having someone to go to appointments with you
  • having someone to chat to about concerns you might have
  • assisting with transport to get your child to the education and care centre
  • connecting you with other support services, e.g. occupational therapy
  • connecting you to your local primary school.

Eligible children can take part in up to 960 hours of free early learning at an education and care service in 2022.

Can my child take part?

To take part in 2022, your child must be:

  • Three years old by 1 January 2022, that is born in 2018
  • In their year before Kindergarten
  • Not currently enrolled in childcare

They must also meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Have parents/primary carers who hold a Health Care Card
  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Receive support or interventions from the Child Safety Service
  • Have two or more concerns identified through the Parents’ Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS)
