Exercise dice

For ages 5 – 8 years

Have you ever exercised before using dice? If you haven’t, it is a lot of fun, as you will soon find out! Exercise is an important part of your child’s day. When they exercise your child will develop their gross motor skills – they get fitter and their coordination gets better. This activity also helps them with number skills.

What do I need?

  • A dice (or use a cube box and write numbers 1 to 6 on the sides)
  • Paper and pen

 How do I do it?

  1. Help your child choose an exercise for each number on their dice. For example, 1 might be a star jump, 2 could be a dance move, 3 might be a push up, etc. Write these down to remember.
  2. Now comes the fun part! First, roll the dice for the exercise to do.
  3. Then roll the dice again for the number of times to do this exercise.

As they get fitter, your child could do twice the number of exercises shown on the rolled dice. Or they could roll the dice twice and add the numbers for the number of exercises to do.

No-one knows your child better than you.  So, choose and/or adapt ideas here to best suit you and your child. Remember it’s the talking and time spent together that matters most.
