Bucket golf tournament
For ages 4 – 8 years
It’s tournament time! By creating their own ‘golf’ course, your child will learn to plan and design in a creative way. As they complete their course, they will develop their throwing accuracy. They can try to beat their own score or play against others.
What do I need?
- Containers, such as buckets or baskets
- Small bean bags (rolled-up socks work just as well)
- Chalk or masking tape
- Paper or cardboard to make flags (optional)
- Pen and paper to record scores
How do I do it?
- Before you start, you can ask your child to draw a plan of their golf course. (Or they could draw it when it is complete.
- Create a ‘golf course’, where buckets and other containers are placed around the house or yard as ‘holes’.
- Using the chalk or tape, create a start line a distance from each hole. Help your child choose a reasonable distance.
- You can create a flag out of paper or cardboard for each hole.
- Move around the course throwing bean bags at each hole. Score by recording how many throws it takes to get the bean bag in.
- After they have done it a couple of times, your child could create a score card, using a point system, for each hole.
- Now they can repeat the course and see if they can get a better (lower) score.
No-one knows your child better than you. So, choose and/or adapt ideas here to best suit you and your child. Remember it’s the talking and time spent together that matters most.
