Creative art for kids
For ages 4 – 8 years
It’s time to let your child’s inner artist shine. Ask them to choose what to draw and then let their imagination run wild!. This activity allows your child to learn to notice details such as shape, colour, and texture. Let them share with you the joy of being creative.
What do I need?
- An item to draw or paint – piece of fruit, toy, plant, or anything your child decides
- Something to draw or paint with – such as chalk, pencils, crayons, felt pens, pastels, paints, charcoal
- Paper
- Easel (optional)
- Art smock (optional)
How do I do it?
- Ask your child to look around the house or garden and choose something to draw or paint. It could be flowers, a teddy, a leaf, a toy truck, a bowl of fruit, a collection of stones or rocks, a feather – anything they are interested in.
- Ask them to place it where they can see it easily. If they have an easel and an art smock, they can put them on to get ready.
- Now it is time to get creative. It can be a lot of fun if you draw or paint alongside your child, and you can create beautiful works together.
No-one knows your child better than you. So, choose and/or adapt ideas here to best suit you and your child. Remember it’s the talking and time spent together that matters most.
